Shoulder Pain

Physiotherapy Professionals Parramatta 12 Ada Street Harris Park NSW 2150
Physiotherapy Professionals Parramatta 12 Ada Street Harris Park NSW 2150

Are you suffering from pain in the shoulder? The shoulder is one of the most mobile joints in the body, granting us the freedom to move and reach as we please. Unfortunately, the shoulder joint is surrounded by nerves, tendons, and other tissues which can all be irritated and cause pain. When tendons, muscles, or ligaments around the joint stretch or tear, it can cause pain directly in the shoulder and can even cause pain nearby or in your neck.

As an extremely mobile joint that plays a central role in the movement of your arm, we understand how tough it can be when you experience pain in a joint which is used for nearly all daily activities. Shoulder pain often strikes in individuals with hobbies such as tennis, gardening, golf, throwing, cleaning, and many others.

Signs and symptoms

It is easy to notice the moment you are experiencing any irritation or pain in your shoulder, but it is difficult to pinpoint the cause of your pain simply because there are many problems that can trigger it. If you are experiencing constant shoulder pain, inability to move your shoulder, pain in lifting things, or any other shoulder discomfort, a Physiotherapist at Physiotherapy Professionals Parramatta can analyze your shoulder joint and symptoms to help relieve your pain and help you get back to your normal routine. Common injuries we see at the clinic include but not limited to:

  • Dislocation
  • Fracture
  • Separation
  • Rotator cuff tear
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Shoulder joint tear
  • Impingement
  • Bursitis

How can Physiotherapy help Shoulder Pain?

Physiotherapists will diagnose your cause of pain

During your first consultation, your Physiotherapist will start by asking you about your history, discuss your symptoms, perform an orthopedic, neurological, physical exam, analyze the state and movement of your shoulder, and maybe even ask you to get a scan through your GP depending on the type of injury you have sustained.

Customize a treatment plan

Once your injury is diagnosed, your Physiotherapist will perform a non-invasive treatment using minimal force and gentle pressure on your shoulder joint to increase range of motion, reduce pain, and improve your shoulder’s overall function. Your Physiotherapist may even give you stretches and strengthening exercises to correct the muscle imbalance which may be causing your symptoms.

Monitor your recovery progress

Depending on the severity of your shoulder injury, your customized treatment plan may vary in the number of required follow-up visits and recommended exercises. The good news is that Physiotherapy Professionals Parramatta will help you feel better and you’ll be on the road to enjoying a higher quality of life.

Physiotherapy Professionals Parramatta 12 Ada Street Harris Park NSW 2150: Accident Rehab Parramatta

Accident Rehab Parramatta: Were you involved in a car or truck accident? Has a work injury left you with debilitating chronic pain? Regardless of how you were injured, Physiotherapy Professionals Parramatta are here to help. We have been helping patients in the Parramatta area to overcome a variety of injuries. We take great care in understanding your injury and conduct in-depth assessment,  physical assessment, and symptom analysis to develop the treatment plan you need for recovery.

We’re experienced in treating injuries from accident trauma.

Our team of highly trained and experienced Physiotherapists use a variety of patient proven and non surgical treatments to help accident patients heal safely and naturally. Whether you’re facing a whiplash injury from a truck accident or your back hurts because you lifted something too heavy at work, we can help you find the relief you deserve. We’ll perform an extensive physical assessment which can include neurological and orthopedic examination to truly pinpoint the source of your pain.

We look for the root cause of your problem.

Physiotherapy is a non invasive alterative to surgery which uses manual techniques, stretches and exercises. Physiotherapy care is a safe and all-natural alternative to relieve you from your pain. We’ll perform a combination of treatments to correct spinal misalignments and joint issues. Using minimal force and gentle pressure, we’ll manipulate your problem areas so your body can heal naturally, with minimal post-surgery downtime. Why mask the pain with pain medications when we can find the root of the problem and relieve your symptoms naturally.

Have you been involved in a motor vehicle accident?

Did you know, a whiplash injury can occur with as little as 10 Km / hour speed? Little impacts can have lasting effects on our body. Most common in car accidents, whiplash occurs when a person’s head is quickly jolted back and forth with great force. Although symptoms may not appear for a few days, whiplash can have lasting effects causing long-term pain and discomfort. In the case that you do not address your whiplash injury, damaged neck joints, discs, or ligaments can cause chronic pain or headaches for years to come.

Who can receive Physiotherapy after a car accident?

If you’ve been injured in any motor vehicle accident in NSW you can apply for “personal injury benefits” under the NSW CTP scheme. This includes:

  • Drivers and passengers
  • Motor bike riders and passengers
  • Pedestrians
  • Cyclists

If you are charged with a serious driving offence in connection with the accident, or if you were the at-fault driver of an uninsured vehicle, then you are not entitled to motor vehicle accident compensation in NSW.

Common injuries that qualify for a CTP claims:

  • Broken collar bone or separated shoulder
  • Fractures
  • Broken or bruised bones
  • Cuts and abrasions
  • Head or brain injury
  • Soft tissue injuries

Threshold Injuries

Your injuries will be classified as ‘threshold’ or ‘above threshold’, and this classification will determine how your claim is assessed.

  • Threshold injuries are less serious accident injuries like bruising, cuts, and abrasions, but not fractures. Threshold injuries include musculoskeletal conditions such as general muscular pains due to the accident.
  • Above-threshold injuries are more serious injuries which include fractures, head or brain injuries, or injuries that require surgery.

I’ve had a car accident, what do I do next?

  1. Report the accident to the police. This is important, as you’ll need a police event number to claim your entitlements. This can also depend on the insurer, not all insurance companies will require you to provide a police event number.
  2. You’ll need details of the vehicle involved to identify the CTP insurer. However, you can still lodge a CTP claim provided you have other evidence to substantiate your claim.
  3. Keep records of any witnesses and photos of the accident scene. Helmet or bike camera footage can be especially helpful with cycling accident claims.
  4. See your GP and get a full medical assessment. Even if you don’t need to go to hospital, it’s important to get a medical assessment as some injuries can worsen over time, and if your injuries do worsen you might need time off work or further treatment. It’s paramount your GP lists all of your symptoms on your medical certificate, regardless of how minor the symptom may be. Symptoms can worsen days or even weeks after the accident.
  5. If you need any time off work or treatment, submit an ‘application for personal injury benefits’. This will allow you to receive 80-95% of your lost wages, covered by the CTP claim.
  6. It’s important to submit your claim within 28 days of the accident to be eligible for your lost wages to be backdated to the date of the accident. The final date for lodgement is three months from the date of the accident.

Support available after a car accident

  • Below Threshold Injury: Income support, medical, Physiotherapy and home care expenses for up to 12 months
  • Above Threshold Injury: Income support, medical and home care expenses that can extend beyond 12 months

Steps you need to take after the accident to lodge your claim:

1.     Inform your insurer, lodge a police report (Police report may not be required, depending on the extent of the injuries)

2.     You should go to the hospital or your general practitioner (GP) and obtain treatment for any injuries you have sustained. Make sure your GP or the hospital records how your accident occurred and records all the injuries you have sustained, even those injuries that might seem minor at the time. If you went to the hospital first, you may need to consult your GP who will provide you with an “Accident Notification Form” or a medical certificate. You will need this form to lodge your CTP claim.

3. If because of the car accident you need time off work or payment for medical treatment, you need to submit an Application for Personal Injury Benefits form.

4. You will need certain details before you can lodge your CTP Claim:

  • The details of the vehicle that hit you (to identify the CTP insurer)
  • Police event number
  • Medical certificate from your GP (Filled by your GP)
  • Personal injury benefits form (Filled by you)

5. It is best to submit your claim as soon as possible. To receive lost wages, you must submit your claim within 28 days of the accident.

7. Once your claim has been accepted, the insurer will issue you with a claim number. You can provide this claim number to a Physiotherapist who will assist you with your injury and provide rehabilitation services.
