Growing Pains

Growing Pains

Do you have active kids?

Children while going through a growth spurt, can often complain of growing pains – Knee pain, ankle pain or even back pain.

It’s important to get the right advice and treatment early to maintain activity levels and your child’s health. These pains are often felt in active kids who are growing or even in adolescents and young adults. Growing pains occur when the bones grow in size and the muscles which attach onto the bones can’t keep up. Muscles take longer to catch up. As a result, tightness is a common complaint and pain over the muscle attachment site can be felt.

Pains occurring due to the growth phase can be effectively managed by a Physiotherapist. I have see too many patients in the past who have been wrongly advised to take the whole season off sports.

Speak to Physiotherapy Professionals Parramatta today and see how we can help you.

The knee is a common area where kids complain of pain during the growth phase. If left untreated, an extra bump can develop under the knee due to tight muscles pulling on the bone

Back pain: Facts

Lower back pain

Did you know, most lower back pain take place due to injuries caused by repeated or sustained positions and activities over many events?

What Causes Back Pain?

The back is a complicated structure of bones, joints, ligaments and muscles. You can sprain ligaments, strain muscles, rupture disks, and irritate joints, all of which can lead to back pain. While sports injuries or accidents can cause back pain, sometimes the simplest of movements—for example, picking up a pencil from the floor— can have painful results. In addition, arthritis, poor posture, obesity, and psychological stress can cause or complicate back pain. Back pain can also directly result from disease of the internal organs, such as kidney stones, kidney infections, blood clots, or bone loss.

Neck pain?

There are various treatments available for neck pain – a common problem that affects about two-thirds of all Australian adults at some point in their lives. The most suitable treatment for you will depend on the cause of your neck pain and how severe it is. For many people, neck pain treatment involves a combination of self-care measures, medicines, exercises and relaxation therapies.

It’s important to note that there is limited scientific evidence proving the effectiveness of many therapies used to treat neck pain. Your doctor can advise you of the treatments that are most likely to be of benefit to you.
