Lower Back Strain

Lower back strains

The majority of episodes of acute lower back pain are muscular in origin. While a muscle strain doesn’t sound like a serious injury, the lower back pain resulting from the strain can be surprisingly severe.

Common causes of a lower back strain:

Lower back pain from muscle strains usually is caused by any type of movement that puts undue stress on the lower back. Frequent causes include lifting a heavy object, lifting while twisting, or a sudden movement or fall.

Physio or Chiro? What’s the difference?

Physio or chiro? Other than patients asking questions about their particular injury, this has to be the next most popular question. And it’s a tough one to answer. Certainly all three professions have come a long way since they were originally created many years ago. This article by ABC Health and Wellbeing summarises all three professions very well.

Is sitting is bad for you? – TED video

Are you suffering from sitting pain?

Are you suffering from sitting pain? We all know we need to be more active, but there is increasing evidence that we also need to spend less time sitting down. The Australian Heat Foundation recommends 30 minutes of moderate exercise on most days to reduce risks of ill health from inactivity.

Studies have linked excessive sitting with being overweight and obese, type 2 diabetes and even some type of cancers. Sitting for long periods  slows our metabolic rate, which affects the body’s ability to regulate blood sugar, blood pressure and break down body fat. Not to mention added effects of lower back issues.

With advances in technology, both adults and children are now spending more time in sitting or lying, And this typically increases with age. This includes watching TV, using a computer, reading, doing homework, travelling by car, bus or train but does not include sleeping.

Here’s an excellent TED video about the hidden risks of sitting:
